As Associate Professor in Spatial Design and Head of Department, Postgraduate Studies, Tina continues to explore the pitfalls and potentials of cross-cultural research in the areas of architecture and design in Aotearoa, the Pacific, and Europe. She is mainly involved in the supervision of Masters and PhD theses in the areas of art, architecture, design, writing and education.
Tina previously lectured at Unitec, Auckland, and gave presentations at tertiary institutions and conferences in New Zealand, Australia, England and Germany.
Tina is executive editor, with Dr. Ross Jenner, of Interstices: Journal of Architecture and Related Arts and a member of the steering committee for the annual public lecture series Under Construction, organised jointly by AUT University and The University of Auckland. She is intermittently working on a book Trading Images: Culture as Resource and Practice.
Her research interests are closely intertwined with personal, political, pedagogical and professional engagements that continue to inform research and teaching practices. They cluster around interfaces and thresholds – literal and metaphorical. For instance: inside/outside, theory/practice, precise/diffuse, permanent/ephemeral, culture as resource/practice, individual/community, tangata whenua/tangata tiriti, art/design, philosophy/sociology.
