About this title.
Double Vision catalogues an exhibition first hosted by the Wharf Street Community Gallery of Creative Tauranga from 28th August to 15th September 2010, and based on a partnership of words and pictures, artists and writers – in summary, the verbal and visual working together. An original artwork was offered for a writer’s response, and text, both poetry and prose was presented for pictorial representation. The intention was not to replicate, but to reinterpret what was offered; to complement, rather than to compete. Double Vision was organised by Tauranga Writers with the assistance of Creative Tauranga, and particularly with the help of John Beech, Gallery Co‐ordinator, whose input of expertise and experience was very much appreciated. We were also grateful to Pete Morris, a Tauranga‐based arts writer, who made up the list of artists for us. Nor would the exhibition have been possible without the full co‐operation of the artists and writers concerned, to whom Tauranga Writers would like to extend their warmest congratulations and thanks.
