Carla Heslop is a business writing coach, proofreader for Her Magazine and freelance writer, with articles published in NZ and Australia. Prior to setting up her business, Elite English Coaching in 2005, Carla Heslop was an ESOL teacher. (She has a BA and Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning.) In her role as Director of Studies at an International College preparing students for university, she developed successful NCEA reading and writing programmes. Later, working with international graduates and post-grads at UC, a niche opened up when she was asked for coaching by the SI manager of a nationwide organisation. His general manager was so impressed with his improvement that she was asked to evaluate and advise other managers on their business correspondence also. When the Press ran an article on her new business (19/2/05), she was inundated with requests for assistance. She discovered that many people had not received at school the basic grammar and punctuation knowledge needed to write a decent letter or email and, to her horror, that many were not even using spell- and grammar-check. She immediately donned her cape and leotard and started writing the Advice Sheets that led to her Easy Edit booklet.
