Susan Gilbert was born and raised on a farm in the middle of the North Island of New Zealand. After finishing college, she then entered into the field of Horticulture, completing a Trade Certificate in Horticulture and Gardening, then a Diploma in Nursery Management. She then traveled around the world, mostly working as a chef. After arriving back in New Zealand in her late twenties, she then trained to be an outdoor instructor and guide, specializing in the pursuits of rock climbing, kayaking, tramping (hiking), and mountaineering. After working ten years in this field, she began her training as a Naturopath and Herbalist. She received a Bachelor of Health Science and an Advanced Diploma in Naturopathy and an Advanced Diploma in Herbalism. For the past ten years, she has been working in private practice and in health food stores as a Naturopath and Herbalist.
