About this title.

John Alexander Moore was born in 1849 in Nelson. This book begins with his parents, Daniel Moore and Helen Alexander, arriving in Nelson from Britain in 1842, and marrying in 1845. The first few chapters are of early life in Nelson including one from John A Moore's diary written by him as a 15 year old in 1864. It describes his school days at Nelson College, his social and family life for most of that year. The following chapters are extracts from his very comprehensive diaries he kept throughout his life. The diaries are full of day to day activities of family, farm, local, national and sometimes international events. He moved from Nelson to the Marlborough area and bought a farm in Havelock Suburban on the Blenheim side of Havelock and he tells of his and his family's life breaking in the land and helping to establish the farm. John Moore also helped with the beginning of the Havelock Suburban School. He kept bees as part of his farm and was well-known in the honey industry in his time. A4. 201 pages.
