About this title.
A contemporary novel based on the legendary lost gold of the clipper ship,
General Grant, which sank on the Auckland Islands in 1866. A fortune in gold
from the Australian gold fields and bound for England was rumoured to be
onboard. The fifteen survivors were stranded for eighteen cruel bleak months
on the rugged deserted windswept sub-antarctic islands. Eventually, a
passing whaling ship discovered the ten still alive by then and take them to
New Zealand. And that was when the rumours started and the stories of
fantastic treasure began to circulate. A number of salvage expeditions
comprising a mixture of foolhardy treasure hunters and serious explorers
have tried and failed for the last 150 years to try and find the legendary
gold.
Gold Digger uses this true story as the stage for its own modern day
treasure hunt. Featuring Alexandra (Alix) George and a cast of characters
from across the globe, a thrilling chase takes place to once and for all
solve the mystery of the General\'s Grant\'s fabulous missing gold.
Set in two time zones - the 1860s where the original story is set and the
2000s where a new hunt evolves - this debut novel has received strong
international acclaim. The Editor in Chief of New York based Little Brown
and Company said -\'the premise here is wonderful\' while Pocket Books said \'a
great story with an intriguing plot\'.
