About this title.

In 1975 Lois Knight bought Motuapo Island in the Bay of Islands. For the next 30 years Lois, her husband Richard and their family were totally committed to replacing the prevalent gorse and weeds with over 10,000 plants and trees that would provide shade and bring back the native birds. They worked extremely hard, often in primitive conditions. In an astonishing achievement they realised their dream - and now leave a lasting legacy. In Lois' own words: "Grandma's Island gave us all a real goal, and our lives were enriched by it. There was always plenty to do. Although we have left Motuapo Island, the Island never leaves us. Perhaps its greatest legacy for us might be the lesson that good humour can help you achieve a lot."
