“Last one out, turn off the light! A Migrant’s Tale” is a book which sets out the trials and tribulations of one family who decided to pick up their lives and transport themselves to New Zealand. It is a story of facing fear and doing it anyway and of having the courage and focus to meet all the challenges – of not seeing problems as a negative but always looking to find a way under, over, round or through them to make the dream a reality!
The book covers the issues about getting Visa and then the emotional aspects of packing up their lives in the UK. It reflects on their first year in New Zealand through their letters “home” which now have some reflective comments and also includes some articles Mike has written for various publications – some funny, some sad and some technical.
Finally, and perhaps uniquely, the book goes back to those family and friends left behind to see how the leaving felt to them!

Mike & Alex set up BritsNZ Ltd after a very tough first year in NZ [on a needs must basis] in an effort to help other migrants find their way to NZ without having to re-invent the wheel.
Mike had worked for 25+ years within the financial services market in the UK and had come to NZ to continue in that profession, whilst Alex had been a Travel Agency Manager and busy mother with the 3 children.
BritsNZ has evolved from being mainly financially focussed to a holistic, one stop shop offering to migrants from the UK.
Our 3 children were aged 13, 8 and 3 when we moved to NZ [and are now 16 [and driving!!!!], 11 & 6] so Mike & Alex have a good knowledge of the NZ education system right across all the differing schooling levels and so can give valuable insights into how the education system differs between the 2 countries.
As a family we have traveled extensively across the North Island but not yet much across the South Island but we are able to offer would be immigrants access to people in most parts of NZ so that you can have an opportunity [via e-mail] to build a support network even before you leave the UK.
We very much have an attitude [having been there ourselves] that there are no mad, bad or sad questions and it is much better to ask than not to do so as the saying goes -knowledge is power-!
