About this title.

Rupert woke with a start. He had been having the bad dream again. He sat up in his sleeping rug and looked across the glade at his talking horse. She was grazing peacefully, glowing in the dawn light with dew glittering on her whiskers. “I had the dream again, Melony,” Rupert told her. The dream made him nervous. Melony frowned and wrinkled her nose, “Well then,” she replied. “What are you going to do about it?” “Do?” Rupert asked. He just wanted to ignore the dream but that was getting harder and harder to manage. “Yes do,” Melony answered firmly.

Rupert is an albino boy who lives in Vast Forest with his talking horse. Plagued by a recurring nightmare he decides to visit a friend named Mad Jim and seek advice. Jim tells Rupert to visit the wise King of Argot across the Great River and ask the king to interpret the dream. Through many adventures in strange lands and encounters with odd creatures, Rupert and Melony set off to find the King of Argot. On the way to Argot they discover that different tribes of the world have lost their languages and with that their cultures too.

This is an adventure mystery for 7 – 13 year olds, celebrating unity in diversity, written with levels of meaning so that adults can enjoy reading it to children. It is the tale of one boy’s determination to solve a puzzling problem affecting his entire world. 94 pages, with 3 coloured and 9 black & white illustrations by the author.
