This book explores a thesis to the effect that mathematics is hobbled by the Zermelo canon at the foundations of set theory. The canon was introduced as a way of solving an important paradox in set theory. Among its far-reaching effects we may count the New Mathematics movement which brought an unparalleled nation-wide teacher retraining to New Zealand in the late 1960s. A superior definition for the Leibniz derivative and other artifacts relating to elementary calculus are produced in the showing.
