About this title.
Slit trench The story explores the friendship which develops between two young white South African soldiers during the Angolan war of 1976. They are from completely different backgrounds. One, Seun Joubert is from an ultra conservative Afrikaner family and the other, Joel Lapinski is from a liberal Jewish family. They are stuck in a slit trench together during a tense contact situation. While in the slit trench they share their experiences, dreams and most intimate secrets. It is a story of prejudice, bigotry and tragic sorrow, as well as an uplifting story of warmth, friendship and love. Mind the gap An amusing mini story about an embarrassing situation experienced by a young man on his overseas experience in London in the early 1970’s. Gemini A heart-warming tear jerker about a talented music student from Auckland, New Zealand whose life makes a complete about-turn when he discovers something quite incredible while studying at Oxford University in England

About this Author.
I've just turned sixty. Originally from Natal in South Africa, now a proud Kiwi. I have diplomas in business management, marketing management and industrial relations. I also have a certificate in teaching English as a foreign language (CerTefl) and was an ESOL and IELTS tutor for 3 years. I have three sons and one grandson. My eldest son, Brad and grandson, Ethan live in the UK so I don't get to see them much. My middle boy, Darren is a web developer in Auckland and lectures on the subject at a design college in Auckland. My youngest son, Evan, is currently in his second year at Auckland University studying linguistics. I've been happily married to Irene for 36 years; she is quite a gifted writer in her own right. I have written a couple of short stories and a play which I have rewritten as a short story. I have self published my book "Slit Trench - Three short stories" through "Publishme" and "Zenith publishing.
I am currently on my second project a book called "Life's a Blah Blah" It is snatches of my life from ages twelve to twenty one in a racist South Africa. It is neither a memoir nor an autobiography but more snap-shots of my life through the years written as a series of short anecdotes. Some are sad, some are funny, some uplifting and some are naughty but hopefully all will amuse. Life can be wonderful, but then again life can be a total f***-up especially for a young boy just emerging from childhood into puberty and adulthood. Being a teenager can be a bitch at the best of times but when trying to cope with a family break-up it is a lot tougher. I hope to complete the manuscript by June or July of this year(2009) so watch this space.
