Kirym’s spring adventure to visit near neighbours turns to horror when she and her family discover the aftermath of an appalling massacre.
Slynd, the leader of the murdering gang now has Kirym’s family in his sights, and they need to move quickly to protect themselves.
The destruction of the paths to keep Slynd out leaves them with no way to escape when their land becomes too dangerous to stay in. Their quest for safety has back fired. However there is one path still open.
The problem is no one knows where it is.
Kirym and her friends, Teema and Arbreu contend with a series of disasters as they search for it, realising that Slynd also knows the path exists. And he may know more about its location than Kirym does.
One crisis lurches into another, and Kirym sees the land around her being destroyed. She knows they are fast running out of time. She must find the path.
Even as she discovers it and leads her family to safety, Slynd and his gang arrive. There is no way to avoid a confrontation. As yet another crisis hits them, Kirym finds herself fighting to save the lives of the men who have been trying to kill her.

Born and raised in New Zealand, Derin Attwood has been telling stories all her life, first to her younger brothers and then to her own children. With the publication of her first novel ‘The Caves of Kirym’ she is concentrating on expanding the world Kirym lives in.
Derin also writes short stories and contributes to a flash fiction website. She has had work accepted by Memories and Bravado magazines.
