About this title.
WALDO RESCUES GERALD Karangahake, 25 August 2008 Nigel Blaikie, a local Karangahake Gorge resident, has published his first children’s book Waldo Rescues Gerald, the first in a series of children’s books about the adventures of Waldo, a rescue helicopter pilot, who gets called in to help in tricky situations. Nigel initially wrote these stories many years ago for his son, Robert, who now has children of his own. Like many people, Nigel put the stories in a drawer and left them there until recently, when he dusted them off and began to read them to his grandchildren. With persistent encouragement from friends and family, he decided to get the books edited and published. Waldo Rescues Gerald begins with Gerald, a friendly giraffe, being taken on a day trip away from the zoo while his zoo house is being repaired after a storm. His keepers plan to take him to the beach, but a couple of unexpected events happen, so Page Two Waldo gets called in to rescue him and Gerald ends up having a completely different adventure and doing all the things he never thought he would get to do. All the Waldo stories have a positive life lesson for the children they are aimed at (ages 3 to 8). In this particular book, the lesson is how to deal with disappointment. Waldo Rescues Gerald is a 32-page book with hand-drawn colour illustrations and is currently available through local bookshops or signed copies can be ordered direct from the author. The author is available to read his book to groups of children at schools, local libraries, kindergartens or any other venues. About this Author.
Ugandan born, with a passionate interest in motor racing and flying. Helicopter work would take him away from the family for long periods of time. Upon returning home, Nigel would tell helicopter rescue related stories to his young son. These stories were eventually taped and then written down. Twenty something years later, after much encouragement, the first of these stories has been "polished and published". The second in the series is ready for printing.
